The Flywheel

The Flywheel Bar & Cafe is nestled within the iconic and famous Beaufort Motors building. With its tall Baroque scrolled facade, Beaufort Motors was one of the most eye-catching and elaborate interwar garages of any style in Victoria, and is important as an early example of roadside architecture in this regard.

Beaufort Motors has striking geometric tilework, and is the earliest Spanish style garage remaining.

The Beaufort Motors building originally opened as a motor mechanics under the name of Wilson’s Motors in the late 1920’s. Since opening, it has served as a Holden dealership, RACV service station, fruit and vegetable shop and more recently a café and bar.

The building has only changed hands 6 times in the past 100 years and still holds so much history associated with the introduction of motor vehicles in daily life.
